Many Khmer language courses only give you part of the picture, by focusing on memorizing words and phrases-with the hope that you will someday be able to parrot them back. This method, while effective in expanding your vocabulary, does not teach you the underlying structure of the language. Speaking a foreign language is a creative act. You need to understand the rules of Khmer in order to speak your own sentences. Courses that rely on memorization alone ignore this fact.

In contrast to the memorization only approach, Foreign Service Khmer utilizes a holistic teaching method. By focusing on teaching all aspects of the language, you’ll learn to speak Khmer, rather than just a list of Khmer words and phrases. Using a straight-forward, easy to follow presentation that uses both Khmer audio and a course book, you will be exposed to everything you need to know to start speaking Khmer fluently. The audio portion of the course teaches you proper Khmer pronunciation and provides and opportunity to practice along with simulated conversations. The audio included with the course can be used on any computer or loaded to your iPod or other MP3 player.
